She has won the Children's Book Award and a raft of other prizes and is the force behind the annual YALC event. David Almond has written many award-winning books including 'The Fire-Eaters', 'Skellig' and 'Kit's Wilderness'. He has won the Gold Smarties Award and the Carnegie Medal. Robert Swindells is author of the award-winning novel Brother in the Land and has just finished his first picture book for children. He lives in West Yorkshire, England. Frances Mary Hendry won the first BBC 'Quest for a Kelpie' competition, and has gone on to write over a dozen books for children, most recently the Ladiatrix Trilogy. She lives in Nairn, Scotland. Martin Booth spent his childhood in Hong Kong and Kenya. He is well-known as an adult novelist, and has been shortlisted twice for the Booker award. He has two grown-up children and lives in Devon.
