Larry is a lifeguard at a hotel. He is also a polar bear! His human friend Martin, the hotel's owner, has to collect Larry from the police station because Larry has been caught playing the bongos at night in the park. With his secret "beatnik" life revealed, Larry introduces Martin and his family to the concept of "cool", the Cafe Mama Bear, and all his beatnik bear friends. Then in comes Big Bear, the coolest polar bear of all, and, to everyone's delight, chooses Larry and his bongos to accompany him singing his blueberry blues. The winning team of Daniel and Jill Pinkwater have created another wacky, technicolour Larry story for children everywhere to enjoy.
