From the time they are babies, all children are fascinated by the human face. Responding to this inherent interest, this book explores all sorts of portraits by artists ranging from Leonardo da Vinci to Salvador Dali. Ancient sculptures depicting Egyptian royalty, engravings by Durer, Botticelli's paintings of women and abstract works are presented in full colour and with the kind of detail kids love. The book also teaches young readers how to paint a face, draw a cartoon and create a face-themed collage. Young readers will learn about self-portraits, double portraits and masks, and challenge themselves with quizzes, puzzles, and optical illusions. Along the way they'll develop an understanding of how and why artists continue to celebrate the human face.
