One stormy evening, when Jamie is staying with his Grandfather, a strange bird walks in through the gate. It is wet cold and featherless and immediately invited into the warm house. They name the bird Thomas and he soon makes himself very much at home. But having a bird in the house can be a bit messy and disruptive and so Jamie and Grandfather hatch a plan to give Thomas a wonderful surprise. Finally, however, it is Thomas who provides the biggest surprise of all!
