This book looks at three types of big book - fiction, poetry and non fiction and provides generic activities that can be used with many different big books to enable teachers to: help children to have a greater understanding of texts; provide a context for teaching word level skills; focus on the features of texts; discover strategies for teaching that can be aplied to many different texts. Whilst activities can be done with any example of the particular text type, the book also provides suggestions for suitable titles. A skills index is also included to enable teachers to monitor the scope of their teaching and ensure that as many learning outcomes are achieved as possible.
