Charles Kingsley's classic tale has been rewritten and illustrated to tell Toms many strange adventures. When Tom gets lost in the chimneys of a great house, he is chased away as a thief. Exhausted by running he slips into a stream where he is transformed into a water baby. He has many strange adventures in the underwater world where he meets the sisters, Mrs Bedonebyasyoudid and Mrs Doasyouwouldbedoneby.

Kingsley resigned from Cambridge in 1869 and between 1870 and 1873 was canon of Chester cathedral. He was appointed canon of Westminster cathedral in 1873 and remained there until his death in 1875. Jan Ormerod is the author and/or illustrator of more than 50 books for children. She lives in England. Josephine Poole was born in London. Her first children's book, A Dream in the House was published by Hutchinson in 1961, after the birth of her second child, and she has continued to published highly acclaimed children's book ever since. She lives in Somerset with her husband. Angela Barrett studied illustration at the Royal College of Art and after graduating in 1980, she began an acclaimed career in children's book illustration. Angela was winner of the Smarties Award in 1988. She lives in London.
