A magical and moving family tale by the author of Jet Smoke and Dragon Fire. Ritchie doesn't know that the old stone boot in the stream belongs to a giant, who lost it thousands of years before. Anyway, he has more worrying things to think about with his mother's puzzling illness. Tensions develop between Ritchie and his sister Maisie and their father and it feels to the boy as though something is pressing down on the house, crushing all the air out of it. Could there be some link between the giant's missing boot and what is happening to the family?
