Each title in this series takes a professional person, whose job is familiar to the reader age group, and follows them through their day. Each introduces the context of members of society going about their daily work. Helen is a farmer who keeps dairy cattle, sheep, pigs and poultry and grows wheat. She farms organically, which means she uses no chemicals either in the animal feedstuffs or on the land - chemical fertilizer, for example. The book takes the reader through all the problems she encounters from the moment she starts her day at 7.30 am right through to supper time.
