Umberto Eco is an Italian writer, philosopher, semiotician and literary critic. In 1980, his novel The Name of the Rose became an internationally acclaimed bestseller, and he has since published numerous novels, children's books and works of non-fiction. Most recently, his novel The Prague Cemetery was shortlisted for the 2012 Independent Foreign Fiction Prize. Carlo Collodi (1826-90) was an Italian journalist, playwright and novelist who achieved worldwide fame with his children's classic Pinocchio. Fulvio Testa is one of Italy's most distinguished artists and illustrators and has had many exhibitions in the United States and Europe. In addition to his own prize-winning titles, he has illustrated books by authors such as Anthony Burgess and Gianni Rodari.
