Seymour doesn't want to go to school, and his fears keep building up (from being picked on to being no good at dodgeball). Poof! His fairy godmother appears to tell him that she will be by his side the whole day and he has nothing to fear. But the next day, instead of helping him, the fairy godmother seems to just make matters worse - spilling dirt when they have their planting seeds science project, drawing pictures rather than helping Seymour spell his name, etc. Seymour has to keep correcting everything that the Fairy Godmother does, until he comes to understand that he has things under control and has nothing to fear (well, except maybe dodge ball!)
