Clive Staples Lewis was born in Belfast in 1898. He wrote numerous books of literary criticism and on Christianity, the best-known being The Screwtape Letters, as well as four novels for adults. The Narnia stories were his only works for children.

This book contains the following stories:

The Last Battle
It is Narnia's darkest hour. A false Aslan is commanding all Narnians to work for the cruel Calormenes and striking terror into every heart. King Tirian's only hope is to call Eustace and Jill back to Narnia in an attempt to find the true Aslan and restore peace to the land. But a mighty battle lies ahead.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Lucy and Edmund have been sent to stay with their awful cousin Eustace for the holidays and so are delighted when they are recalled to Narnia, even though Eustace comes too. Pulled into the painting of a ship, the three are rescued from the sea by Prince Caspian and crew. Caspian is on a mission to recover the seven lost lords of Narnia, or to find out their fates and avenge them if necessary. The children travel with him around the islands, meeting danger and adventure at every turn. During the course of their adventure they meet a dragon, a sea serpent, a band of invisible people and a magician, but also the Great Aslan himself who gives them a very special promise.

Prince Caspian
Look sharp! shouted Edmund. 'All catch hands and keep together. This is magic - I can tell by the feeling!' Times have changed in Narnia. The old Narnians are gone, or in exile and the Telmarines in control. But there is trouble in the ranks, as King Miraz, decides his own son should inherit the throne rather than the rightful heir, Prince Caspian. Helped by his tutor, Cornelius, the prince is forced to run after Miraz orders his guards to get rid of him. He is rescued by some of the old Narnians and they use Susan's old horn to call back the four children from their world. Together the old and new kings, and queens fight to regain Caspian's throne and so restore the land of Narnia to the dwarfs and fawns and other talking animals of old.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy are evacuated from London to Professor Kirke's mansion to avoid the Blitz. During a game of hide and seek Lucy finds a wardrobe which gives her entry to the magical land of Narnia, where animals can talk. But a white witch has laid a spell over the entire land making it winter but never Christmas. Two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve are needed to break the spell and bring spring back to the land. But when the four siblings manage to get into Narnia together things do not go to plan, and a betrayal by one requires the sacrifice of the great lion Aslan if the children are to succeed in their quest.

The Horse and His Boy
Set in the golden age of Narnia when Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy ruled, in the land of Calormen, this story tells of the adventures of Shasta, a slave boy and Aravis, an aristocratic girl. Shasta dreams of escaping his life. One day he learns that his master's horse is a talking horse called Bree who has been kidnapped from Narnia and desperately wishes to go home, and the two run away. Aravis has been promised in marriage to a man she does not live, and she too seeks escape on her talking horse, Hwin. As their paths cross the children and their horses uncover a Calormene plot to conquer Narnia. They must find a way to save Narnia and its people.
