On the morning after Hallowe'en, Sophie Starling sets off for school at the crack of dawn and finds a peculiar baby abandoned in a scrap yard. The baby has been left by its witch mother and Sophie decides to look after it. But she soon finds she has taken on more than she's bargained for.
