Roger McGough is a renowned performance poet, with many collections of well-loved children's poetry to his name. Jackle Kay was born in Edinburgh and grew up in Glasgow, but now lives in Manchester with her son. She is an award-winning poet for both adults and children, having won the Signal Award for The Frog Who Dreamed She Was An Opera Singer (Bloomsbury Children's), the Saltire and Forward Prizes for The Adoption Papers, and the Somerset Maugham Award for Other Lovers (Bloodaxe). Trumpet, her first novel for Picador, won the Guardian Award and was shortlisted for the Impac Award; it received rave reviews. Brian Patten was born in Liverpool. His poetry for adults has been translated into many languages, and his collections include Collected Love Poems, Armada, and, from Penguin, Carol Ann Duffy is widely acclaimed as Britain's leading female poet. She was born in Glasgow, grew up in Staffordshire and studied philosophy at Liverpool University. She has won many awards in recognition of her work, including the Whitbread Prize, the Signal Prize and the Forward Prize for Poetry. Carol Ann now lives in Manchester. Peter Bailey has been illustrating books for more than thirty-five years and has worked with many of today's best known authors, including Philip Pullman, Allan Ahlberg, Michael Morpurgo and Joan Aiken. He lives near Liverpool with his wife, Sian, who is also an illustrator. Gareth Owen is a poet, novelist and broadcaster. He is particularly noted as a prize-winning writer of poetry for children.
