The pigs, Pete and Paul, are eager to help Farmer Bill grow the best and biggest watermelons so he'll win at the annual Fruit and Vegetable Show, but their overzealous efforts to help the melons grow faster end up destroying the entire melon patch. Farmer Bill is upset with the pigs, and they are disappointed in themselves. Then Tractor Mac and Carla the chicken find a melon for Pete and Paul to tend. With patience and care, they learn the proper way to grow a melon. Their watermelon is such a success that Farmer Bill brings it to the fruit and vegetable contest, where it wins Best in Show.
