When a little boy comes home from school to an empty apartment, he gets out his box of cut-out paper lions and crosses into a comforting fantasy world. His imagination creates a life in which he and his four lion friends live together in the jungle. They tell stories, eat, romp and snooze together, having a wonderful time.

Bernice Gold grew up in Montreal near the Museum of Fine Art. Her father had a great passion for books and the family had a large collection--about 15, 000--that lined the house. Early on, Bernice was drawn to anthropology and sociology, and she went on to study them at McGill University. In later years she began to play music in amateur groups. This passion led to a recent degree in music from Concordia University. Joanne Stanbridge was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She has been writing stories as long as she can remember and always liked to draw, but it was not until she was in her thirties that she began to paint. Working as a children's librarian and loving children's literature, it was not long before she was painting pictures to go with her favorite stories.
