DR FRANCES DIPPER is an author, lecturer and independent marine consultant who has spent a lifetime happily studying marine organisms the world over. A naturalist at heart, she has always loved the sea and has a passion for writing books about the ocean both for adults and for children. She has written and contributed to many books, but her Guide to the Oceans won the Royal Society Aventis Prize for junior Science Books. Trevor Day has written many books on life and Earth sciences DK Guide to Mammals author, Ben Morgan, is a freelance science editor and writer who has contributed to more than 50 books and magazines on science and natural history. After graduating in biology from Oxford University, he became Assistant Editor of the Royal Society's Science and Public Affairs magazine before becoming freelance. He works regularly on the BBC's flagship natural history titles and worked as a Senior Editor with the team that originated the DK Guides series in 1999. He produced the DK Guide to Space and the DK Guide to Weather, both of which won the Junior Science Book Prize. He is author of Dorling Kindersley's DK Guide to Birds, The Human Body Revealed and Steck Vaughn's forthcoming Atlas of Tropical Grasslands. Michael Allaby has written numerous books on nature, the environment, and weather, including Facts On File's highly successful Dangerous Weather set, two of the four volumes in the Ecosystem set, and the recently published two-volume Encyclopedia of Weather and Climate. He resides in Tighnabruaich, Scotland.
