Fred can sleep anywhere. He has beds all over the house! When his favourite human, Zelda, throws a birthday party, Fred has other things on his mind. How many places can he curl up and fall asleep in, on, and around? Inside a crinkly shopping bag, on a slightly soggy bath towel, and maybe even around piles of old newspapers. But when Fred gets in trouble with Zelda, he must find a way to get back on her good side - and save her birthday party.

There are two charmingly intertwined stories here: that of a little girl's birthday party and that of her beloved beagle's progress from makeshift bed to makeshift bed as the preparations and the party progress . . . Pleasingly two-dimensional illustrations, packed with comic details of the hapless canine, enhance Samuels' furry, frolicsome tale. "Booklist"

Bold, bright illustrations have a fresh appeal . . . Clever and charming. "Kirkus Reviews"

A fun read-aloud for dog devotees. "School Library Journal"

Fred's travails, body language, and ability to make a bed out of just about anything make for entertaining reading, but it's his mutually adoring relationship with Zelda that will resonate most strongly with yong pet lovers. "Publishers Weekly""
