"The Little Prince" follows the story of a young prince who travels from his tiny home asteroid to Earth, encountering various inhabitants along the way. Through his experiences with a fox, a rose, and a stranded aviator, he explores themes of love, loss, and the essence of human relationships. The prince’s innocence and wisdom reveal the importance of looking beyond the surface to find true meaning in life. His journey serves as a poignant reminder of the value of imagination and the lessons learned through companionship and understanding. Ultimately, it reflects on what it means to be truly human. The author of several novels about flying, he is best remembered today for the children's book The Little Prince. ANTOINE DE SAINT-EXUPERY, the "Winged Poet," was born in Lyon, France, in 1900. A pilot at twenty-six, he was a pioneer of commercial aviation and flew in the Spanish Civil War and World War II. His writings include The Little Prince, Wind, Sand and Stars, Night Flight, Southern Mail, and Airman's Odyssey. In 1944, while flying a reconnaissance mission for his French air squadron, he disappeared over the Mediterranean. Richard Howard is the author of eleven books of poetry, including Untitled Subjects, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1970, and Trappings.
