It is a cold Christmas Eve in the mountains. Two children from a poor family set out through the snow to the church in the city, to present their few coins as a gift for the Christ Child. On the way, Elder Brother stops to take care of a beggar woman who is struggling through the winter weather, and Younger Brother sets off alone to find help for the woman. When he finally reaches the church, Younger Brother is almost overcome by awe at the splendour of the building and the wealth of the people there. He summons up courage to present his gift - and then the miracle happens. The ancient legend is fulfilled and the bells start to ring: his is the gift truly worthy of the Christ Child.
