She beautifully illustrated the 200 fairy tales of Grimm in full color and was awarded the prestigious Silver Brush for this in 2006. de Vries is a former winner of the Dutch National Book Award, the Silver Pen, and has been included on the List of Honor of the European Prize for Juvenile Literature.
