This text seeks to integrate the concepts and issues developed in the other titles in the "Hodder Geography" series, linking them to the study of two contrasting countries: Germany and South Africa. Together they provide a way to apply such topics as landforms, population, urban and rural areas, resources and economic activity. Using the case studies to explore a range of scales, with additional background to provide global context, the volume aims to complement and diversify the content of the other books, building upon the themes of development, sustainability and the environment issues. Emphasizing an approach to regional geography that looks at similarities as well as differences, it seeks to establish a sound understanding of place.
