Scottish schoolboy, Stevie, befriends pretty Chinese classmate, Maisie, when some children tease her, and takes her to his riverside camp in Peebles. When she falls into the river, he rescues her, emerging in mythological China as White Tiger. With Maisie, or Hua-Mei ('Pretty Flower'), he learns he has to accomplish a dangerous mission before they can get back to Peebles. He soon discovers success depends on a balance between his courage and the girl's charm. They encounter hungry ghosts, a miserable blue dragon, and many other colourful, mythological Chinese beasts and characters ...but when they finally meet the mysterious Moon Rabbit, the one who knows everything, their return to Peebles seems further away than ever ...Moon Rabbit, an engaging, beautifully illustrated, Yin Yang fantasy tale of friendship between two children from different cultures, also introduces the western child to many aspects of daily life in China.
