Scarlett and Crimson are two 13-year-old best friends who see the world differently than other girls their age. They love the colour black; their favourite time is night-time; and their favourite mood is DARQ. Scarlett is a girl with a darq, yet chic fashion sense, a talent for poetry and likes to create her own darq sense of style. Mischievous Crimson can play the piano like a regular Mozart but she'd much rather spend her time rockin' out on the drums. These girls hold confidence, individuality, love, respect and friendship at the top of their priority lists. Add in to the mix Pepper, a British exchange student with a knack for playing a mean keyboard, and this kooky group is a force to be reckoned with! Scarlett and Crimson expect this week to be just like every other at V. Price Memorial Middle School. But to their surprise and delight, they discover some seriously Darq potential in the new British exchange student - Pepper White - after hearing that he just snubbed the Leetz (the clique of popular, know-it-all girls that rule the school) at lunch! As if that wasn't treat enough, the girls find out that the community recreation centre is sponsoring a Battle of the Bands contest, and the top three bands from the whole district will compete live on Halloween night - the perfect opportunity to showcase their new, yet-to-be-named band. Tween girls will immediately take to Scarlett and Crimson in this first instalment as the girls launch their website, DarqSpace, partner up with Pepper to record an awesome demo, and show the Leetz that popularity doesn't always win over the crowd.
