A gripping novel about love, life and beyond, from a Guardian Children's Fiction Prize-winning author. Ever since her beloved cat Jacoby died, fifteen year-old Tig has been miserable. She and her mother barely speak, she is haunted by the presence of her hated stepfather, and longs to meet her real father. When an accident leaves her hovering between life and death, she is given the chance to play Jacoby's Game and explore other places and times in search of a happier life. But happiness is closer to home than Tig thinks: her real father has come from Senegal to see her, and as the game unfolds she gains a new insight into herself and the lives of those around her.
