Four stories about a boy and his special friend, a huge magical bear Like many young children, Anthony has a teddy bear. But a teddy can't help him when the big kids are being horrible, and telling him he's too little to play with them. So Anthony goes to his blackboard and chalks a huge bear, who then magically comes to life. Now everyone wants to play with Anthony - and no big kid dares to try and bully him. Blackboard Bear is a wonderful ally and companion, although he can be a bit of a liability at times - such as when he goes out at night and raids the neighbours' blueberries, goldfish and honey! Told entirely through dialogue, these four stories are designed to appeal to a small child's imagination. Martha Alexander is also the author of "You're a Genius, Blackboard Bear", "'A', You're Adorable", "Good Night, Lily", "Where's Billy?", "Billy and Lily" and "Billy's Boot".

Sidney Lippman says, "Making an illustrated children's book out of the song is such a natural idea that I'm amazed the process wasn't reversed--that the children's book didn't come first, followed by the song. " Martha Alexander says, "I've never had so much fun illustrating a book. My editor and art director said, 'No limits--do it the way you want. ' That really freed me. I especially loved putting the baby animals in the pictures. "
