Mouse moves in to a deserted house and decides to make his home there. He invites all his friends to a house-warming party. One by one they arrive and all bring something with them - Cat with a mat, Dog with a log, Hare with a chair, Owl with a towel, Giraffe with a bath, Hen with a pen, Lamb with some jam, Rat with a bat in a hat, and Fox with a box full of lots and lots of different kinds and colours of socks. The party goes with a swing until an elephant arrives, looking rather cross and claiming that the house is actually his! But Cat's quick wits save the day. "Come in, come in! You're just in time for the party," she says. Elephant, thinking the party is for him, is delighted. The party is a great success and, later, when the guests have all gone, Elephant suggests to Mouse that perhaps there's room for them both in the house. They can share.
