On the vast South African plains, Mbali, a young Swazi girl, takes you on a wonderful trip around her country's many varied habitats. She points out the local animals, from aardvark, buffaloes and cheetahs, to whales, yellow billed kites and zebras.

Revd Alan M. Barker is a busy Methodist minister who has worked in Lincolnshire for the past 27 years. His writing is informed by regular visits to local primary schools to lead collective worship. He aims to create assemblies that reflect upon life and faith in ways that are inclusive, engaging and enjoyable. Author: Dr Lindiwe Mabuza is the South African High Commissioner in the UK. She is a published poet, a respected academic and a broadcaster. Her diplomatic work has taken her all over the world. South African Animals is her first book for children. Illustrator: Alan Baker has written and illustrated over forty books for children and has worked with authors and artists such as Michael Rosen (Hairy Tales and Nursery Crimes - no 1 best seller 1985), Philippa Pearce (The Battle of Bubble and Squeak -Whitbread award winner 1979), Louis de Bernieres (Red Dog - V&A Illustration award nomination in 2002) and Joni Mitchel (Both sides now - 1992 Y. E. S award of excellence - USA). He has been recipient of two IRA/CBC Children's choice award, the Gold Creative Circle Award, Silver Campaign Press Award and was creative match flair illustrator of the month in November 2004. Alan has more recently been producing illustrations for The Guardian wall charts.
