For hundreds of years, the Old Testament has inspired Western artists to create some of the world's greatest paintings. This is a collection of 17 stories - beginning with the Creation and the Fall of Adam and Eve - told in the language of the King James version of the Bible. The book features paintings from fine art museums around the world. A pictorial index at the back provides insight into the context of paintings and biographical information on the artists. Artists features include: Rembrandt, Breughel, Tintoretto, Tiepolo, Giorgione and Lucas Cranach. The paintings come from museums and galleries, such as the National Gallery, London, the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, the Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence, and the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.
