The use of audio sounds is a natural extension to a phonic reading scheme that focuses on the sounds of letters and letter combinations. These cassettes are designed to "stand alone" even when used with Ladybird readers and cover all eight books of the "Say the Sounds" reading scheme. Over 40 of the 70 sounds in the scheme are introduced and practised in a fun way using everyday words. Many of the sounds are further illustrated with songs and nursery rhymes. Each of the eight stories is retold in a much freer way than the controlled vocabulary of the readers allows. Listen and practise is performed by Kate Lee and Simon Clark, with musical arrangements by Keff McCulluch. Scripts, music and production are by Elaine Saffer.
