This extraordinary book of cautionary tales (in verse) by the author of Struwwelpeter describes the terrible fates that await bad children. Slovenly Kate is a messy eater and she is made to eat with the pigs; but her punishment is as nothing compared to that of Screaming Annie, who is taken by a stork and fed on frogs, or cowardly Fred who is simply thrown away by the maid. This book is a republication of the 1875 edition, illustrated by Theodor Hosemann.

This book is part of a book series called Dover Childrens Classics .

There are 96 pages in this book. This book was published 2013 by Dover Publications Inc. .

Heinrich Hoffmann (1809-1894), a doctor in his native Frankfurt (where there is a museum devoted to his work), often told funny stories to put his young patients at their ease. Frustrated by the moralistic tone of contemporary children's books, he wrote and illustrated this picture book as a Christmas present for his three-year-old son, and it has delighted and terrified generations since.
