This is a story about a residential home and school for children who are "different". One August Bank Holiday a Fair comes to Middling but it is starnge fair, including side-shows and attractions such as the "Able See Men", and Mr Scratch. When the children from Winterbottom School for Incapacitated Orphans, some are offered the chance to escape their infirmity.
